Staff Directive Motion Analysis

An analysis of motions by Tampa City Council from 9/25-3/26 for staff to appear for or to write a report for council.

By

Michael Bishop

March 6, 2026

In September of 2025 the Tampa Monitor began storing agenda items in a machine readable format. We wanted to take a look at Tampa City Council motions requesting staff to either appear in person for a report or to submit a written report to council. A script was created to parse the last six months of agendas to create this report.

A total of 46 agendas were parsed with a total of 136 raw items. For each council member, requests to CRA staff were excluded as well as compacting recurring items into one for an adjusted total.

Below the chart are the motions made in the last 6 months by council member related to staff appearing in person. Duplicate motions may appear if an item was continued.

All motions require a second and a majority of council to approve.
